Even though some of us are gathering in the sanctuary, we will continue to post recordings of the services (which will be similar, at least in content, to the in-person services). It will also be available for viewing by clicking on one of the following links.

Please note that we are moving the YouTube channel from my personal account to the new “St. David’s United Church Leduc-Beaumont” account, so you will need to re-subscribe. For the month of August, we will post to both accounts. This is in preparation for my departure at the end of this month, and for the arrival of the Rev. Leigh Sinclair in mid-September.

You can also access these pages from this website by clicking on either the “F” for Face Book or the “Play Button” icon for YouTube.

Thanks to Stacie for the readings, and to Colin, Robin, Jasmin , Jim & Ron for the music.

Blessings.

Order of Worship

RELIGHTING THE CHRIST CANDLE (Romans 12:4-5)

Though we are many, we are one body in union with Christ, and we are all joined to each other as different parts of one body.

GATHERING (from Celebrate God’s Presence)
One: We come to you, O God, our River of Life:
All: May we drink deeply, and receive your grace.
One: We come to you, O God, our Rock of Ages:
All: May we stand in trust, and receive your strength.
One: We come to you, O God, our Source of Compassion:
All: May we open our hearts, and receive your healing love. Amen.

HYMN: “Let Us Build a House” (verses 1,2,4,5)
(Marty Haugen, © GIA Publications; No. 1 MV; One License)

Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live,
A place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive.
Built of hopes and dreams and visions, rock of faith and vault of grace;
Here the love of Christ shall end divisions:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where prophets speak, and words are strong and true,
Where all God’s children dare to see to dream God’s reign anew.
Here the cross shall stand as witness and as symbol of God’s grace,
Here as one we claim the faith of Jesus:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where hands will reach beyond the wood and stone
To heal and strengthen, serve and teach, and live the Word they’ve known.
Here the outcast and the stranger bear the image of God’s face;
Let us bring an end to fear and danger:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where all are named, their songs and visions heard
And loved and treasured, taught and claimed as words within the Word.
Built of tears and cries and laughter, prayers of faith and songs of grace,
Let this house proclaim from floor to rafter:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
Where do we see oppression in today’s world? How can we offer support to those who are being threatened?

  • Exodus 1:8-22; 2:1-10 (The birth of Moses)
  • Matthew 16:13-20 (Peter’s great confession)

ASCRIPTION
One: In ages past, disciples, prophets, priests and historians wrote down their faith. This is a faithful witness of our ancestors,– Word of God for us today.
All: Thanks be to God.

HYMN: “In Loving Partnership”
(Jim Strathdee, © 1983 Desert Flower Music, No. 603 VU; One License)

In loving partnership we come, seeking, O God, your will to do.
Our prayers and actions now receive; we freely offer them to you.

We are the hands and feet of Christ, serving by grace each other’s need.
We dare to risk and sacrifice with truthful word and faithful deed.

Loving community we seek; your hope and strength within us move.
The poor and rich, the strong and weak are brought together in your love.

In loving partnership, O God, help us your future to proclaim.
Justice and peace be our desire, we humbly pray in Jesus’ name.

SERMON: “And What about You?”

HYMN: “Come, Touch and Bless”
(Gordon Light, No. 12 MV; One License)

Come touch our hearts that we may know compassion,
From failing embers build a blazing fire;
Love strong enough to overturn injustice,
To seek a world more gracious,
Come, touch and bless our hearts.

Come touch our souls that we may know and love you,
Your quiet presence all our fears dispel;
Create a space for spirit to grow in us.
Let life and beauty fill us.
Come, touch and bless our souls.

Come touch our minds and teach us how to reason,
Set free our thoughts to wonder and to dream;
Help us to open doors of understanding,
To welcome truth and wisdom,
Come, touch and bless our minds.

Come touch us in the moments we are fragile
And in our weakness your great strength reveal
That we may rise to follow and to serve,
-- Steady now our nerve.
Come, touch and bless our wills.

Come touch us now, this people who are gathered
To break the bread and share the cup of peace;
That we may love you with our heart, our soul,
Our mind, our strength, our all.
Come, touch us with your grace.

PRAYER OF JESUS

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

HYMN: “O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing”
(Charles Wesley, No. 326 VU; Public Domain)

O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise,
The glories of my God and King, the triumphs of God’s grace.

Jesus! the name that charms our fears, that bids our sorrows cease;
’Tis music in the sinner’s ears, ’tis life and health and peace.

He speaks, and listening to his voice, new life the dead receive,
The mournful broken-hearts rejoice, the humble poor believe.

Hear him, you deaf; you voiceless ones, your tongues again employ;
You blind, behold your Saviour comes, and leap, you lame, for joy!

My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim,
To spread through all the earth abroad the honours of your name.
