Call to Worship and Gathering Prayers
Wait a second!
I was here first!
I have been working here for hours!
They just turned up.
Yet, the boss is going to pay us all the same!
What’s going on, how can this be fair?
We bring our questions of fairness into worship this morning...
Let us pray:
God may you open up my heart this day to the abundant love you have.
It is not something that can run out, so I need not fight for my share.
Remind me of that when I see those ahead of me in the line who seem more worthy.
Remind me of that when I see those who arrived late.
Whenever we show up...there you are!
Thanks be to you God! Amen
Coming Together
Time in God
Singing: #577 VU I’ve Got Peace Like a River
Reading from Scripture:
Philippians 1:21-30, New Revised Standard Version
Matthew 20: 1-16, reading from The Message paraphrase.
We respond:
In ages past, disciples, prophets, priests and historians wrote down their faith.
This is a faithful witness of our ancestors.
Word of God for us today.
Thanks be to God.
Sermon: God’s Time
Singing: #356 VU Seek Ye First the Kingdom
Giving Our Offerings:
Doxology MV#196 “We Will Take What You Offer”
We will take what you offer, we will live by your word; we will love one another and be fed by you, Lord. We will take what you offer, we will live by your word; we will love one another and be fed by you Lord.
Offering Prayer:
Let us pray...
AS God you have been extravagant in loving us, may we share in abundance what we have for the healing of the world. We look into our hearts and see the love of Christ. Amen.
Prayer of the People and the Lord’s Prayer
Singing: #92 MV Like a Rock (3 times through)
Sending Out
Children of the Creator God, go forth from this place knowing that in you, the fruit of all creation is strong and true.
You are always in God’s presence so soak up love no matter where you are in the line ups of this coming week.
We go and take our gifts of love out into the world, knowing that we go with the blessing of God, the love of Christ, and the communion of the Holy Spirit.
Thanks be to God and Amen!
Today’s prayers were inspired by writing of Sandy Ferguson, Fern Gibbard and Deborah Ambridge Fisher. They write for Gathering and are used with permission from the Pentecost 2, 2020 edition.
For those joining in person this week, there will be a congregational meeting following the service.
