Call To Worship
Loving God, we again gather, united by your Spirit,
you are our companion on this Lenten pandemic journey, and we will trust you.
As we remember and return to the habits of faith, let them all fresh and renewing ways.
In the habits of faith like confession and worship, you calm us.
You are our companion and we will trust you.
In the habits of faith such as hearing and learning about Jesus, you reassure us.
You are our companion and we will trust you.
In the habits of faith such as serving others and praying for all – including ourselves who are anxious, lonely, and frail, you support us.
You are our companion and we will trust you.
As we find strength in a faith community changed but inspired, you rejoice with us. Amen.

OPENING PRAYER (based on Psalm 22), including confession
Holy God,
It is to and from you that comes my praise comes –
in the great congregation of we who gather in person and online,
our vows we share with one another:
We will be in awe of you, God who is Maker of all.
We shall pay you in worship and praise!
Thanks to you, the poor shall eat and be satisfied;
those who seek you cannot but praise the Lord.
May the family you have joined together, keep our hearts alive forever!

We confess that we do not always keep you at our center – as we get distracted by other things that SEEM powerful – the love of money, the love of power, the love of fame:
So bring us back – help us repent, return and be renewed!
Words of Assurance
All the ends of the earth remember!  We will remember and return to you!
and all the families of the nations worship before you in so many different ways:
We proclaim:
We are forgiven by a merciful, gentle yet powerful God!
Dominion belongs to the Lord and Adonai’s grace!

COMING TOGETHER,

Reading from Scripture:
Psalm 22:23-31 Reading from New King James Version
Mark 9:2-9 (NRSV)
We respond:
In ages past, disciples, prophets, priests and historians wrote down their faith.
This is a faithful witness of our ancestors.
Word of God for us today.
Thanks be to God.

Sermon Renewing habits for 40 days:  WORSHIP.

Singing: VU 268 Bring Many Names

Doxology:  MV187 (v1-2)
Offering:
They seem so little and the world is so big
and so overwhelming right now,
yet we offer these gifts to you, O God.
Take what we offer and bless it for your mission of love.
In a world of conflict and pandemic,
may these gifts, and we ourselves,
become agents of change and transformation,
in Jesus’ name of self-giving love. Amen.

Prayer of the People
The Lord’s Prayer

Singing: VU 634 (tune 633) Abraham and Sarah

Commissioning
In a world that is closed in, locked down, and distanced, be a sign of hope and love.
We will let our faith lead us into a life that blesses the world.
Dare to trust that God’s goodness is not at a distance, but in each breath.
We will go now, knowing that God goes before us and calls us to come.
Beside you is Christ, our teacher, our healer, our friend.
Surrounding you like light, like breath, is the Spirit.
We go blessing one another in peace.
We go to serve God, today and each day. Amen.

Singing:  MV 216 Wherever you May Go
