Prelude

Lighting of Candle
The hope of Christ shines on us and in us.
The love of Christ leads us.
The compassion of Christ transforms us.
We light this candle in the certainty
that Christ’s presence is here with us today.

Calls to Worship:

God said, “Let there be light.”
And there was light.
God said, “keep too the darkness”
And there was both light and dark and all the wonders of shadow and light!
God said, “Let there be a dome to separate the waters!”
And there was sky.
God said, “Let there be land and earth and vegetation!”
And there were all manner of trees and fruits.
Come and worship the God who speaks the words of creation.
We come—to receive those creative words and to be made new!

Hymn AGCS 30 Glory to God

Reading from Scripture:
Jonah, reading from chapters one to three, selected verses:
Mark 1:14-20
We respond:
In ages past, disciples, prophets, priests and historians wrote down their faith.
This is a faithful witness of our ancestors.
Word of God for us today.
Thanks be to God.

Sermon: How does one Respond?

Singing: MV 171 Christ Has No Body Now but Yours

Offering Prayer:
God of Great Abundance, we have cast our nets wide, and the haul is astounding! Grant us faith that we might maintain this conviction. May our givings be generous and our commitment be extravagant. We make our offering with great joy. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:  modern spoken

Singing: MV 48 I Can Feel you Near Me God

Go forth in the name of Abba God, Mother Spirit, Brother Jesus.
