Prelude

Lighting of Candle
In the scriptures, we are given the law, a tradition arising from our Jewish forebears. In that tradition, the law firmed up a community in the mix of daily life.
In the Christian tradition, the laws are firmed up in Jesus’ call, “Come, follow me. Love your neighbour as yourself.”
We light this candle as a people who know Jesus as the source of grace revealing the way and empowering us to follow.

Call to Worship
Creator and creative God,
Thank you for this new day!
Creator and creative God,
Thank you for calling us together - online and in person where possible.
Creator and creative God,
We come to worship you - a Love larger than we can ever imagine.

Opening Prayer
Creator and creative God, the silence of sunrise is a beacon for our souls that draws us to a closer connection with the power and might of your word.
As we meditate surrounded by the beauty of your world, we are drawn to a soundless hymn of praise for your majesty.
Awake in me a clean heart, refreshed by a sleep that brings me back to dawn each day and that gives me the strength to face whatever this day may bring. As light fills the day and creatures begin to stir, fill me with that same light, aware of the very preciousness of what it means to be in this moment, alive and well and eager to begin.
As the day proceeds, O God, help me to examine with new insight the places and people that I encounter and to accept each and all, as your example would have me do.
Accept our praise and thanks for this and every day of my life, O God, our rock and my guide. Amen.

Reading from Scripture:
1 Thessalonians 1: 1-10 from the paraphrase:  The Message

We respond:
In ages past, disciples, prophets, priests and historians wrote down their faith.
This is a faithful witness of our ancestors.
Word of God for us today.
Thanks be to God.

(chorus, sung twice through)
Called by Earth and Sky,
promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust,
treasure of ife sanctified,
called by earth and sky.

Offering Prayer:
The fruit of our hands, the fruit of our minds, the fruit of our hearts. Help us to offer you these things, O God, in gratitude for the grace you have poured out on us.
May these fruits be a means of extending your grace within and beyond these walls to all of creation. Amen.

Sending Out
Go forth, witnessing to our membership in the Body of Christ!
Let us show to the world the blessings that we receive from God.
Let us share our faith in Christ that brings healing to the brokenness around us
and our calling from the Spirit to reach out to all who feel lost and proclaim the Good News: God is with us!
