Prelude

Lighting of Candle
In the scriptures, we are given the law, a tradition arising from our Jewish forebears. In that tradition, the law firmed up a community in the mix of daily life.
In the Christian tradition, the laws are firmed up in Jesus’ call, “Come, follow me. Love your neighbour as yourself.”
We light this candle as a people who know Jesus as the source of grace revealing the way and empowering us to follow.

Singing:  #516 VU  Come you Thankful People, Come!

Call to Worship and Gathering Prayers

Be exuberant in your praise of our Creator!
Do not be timid or reluctant to show your praise.
Our Greatest Friend under all the heavens
should hear our shouts of praise.
If our day begins with trial or sorrow,
remember God’s love—and give your praise.
When toiling in the weedy garden
or when under a new deadline yet to be reached
sing your praise.
The parking spot that opened up—
call out your praise.
The traffic light that made you stop—
again, sing your praise.
The joyous music that you hear performed—
give your praise.
The squeaky violin practising—
send forth your praise.
Let all that breathes upon this good earth—
rejoice in your praise.
Praise the Lord! Amen.

Coming Together: Gratitude

Reading from Scripture:
Philippians 4:1-9 from the paraphrase: The Message

Luke 17:11-19    New Revised Standard Version

We respond:
In ages past, disciples, prophets, priests and historians wrote down their faith.
This is a faithful witness of our ancestors.
Word of God for us today.
Thanks be to God.

Sending Out
As you leave this morning, I invite you to notice! Notice the sky that brightens, the earth that supports; the air that invigorates, the flowers that praise; the smiles that warm, the people who love.
We go out to notice the rivers that flow, the lakes that invite, the rhythm of seasons.
Take in the beauty of creation with every breath.Notice!
We will re-discover in the noticing, our call to care for God’s gift of creation.
